Missouri S&T Digital Badges and Pathways

Digital badges can be earned individually or stacked to earn a master badge in completion of a pathway.

How Digital Badges Work?

Digital badges are much more than just static images or logos. They act as "microcredentials" that tell a complete story about your professional development:

  • Verifiable Data: Clicking a digital badge allows employers or peers to view the secure, underlying data that proves it was actually earned.
  • Portability: They can be stored in digital "backpacks" or credential management platforms (like Parchment Digital Badges) and linked seamlessly across the web.
  • Sharability: They are easily showcased on professional platforms like LinkedIn, personal portfolios, and digital resumes.

How Pathways Work?

Digital badge pathways are structured, step-by-step learning journeys where individuals earn interconnected digital credentials (badges) as they advance from foundational skills to mastery. Each badge acts as a verifiable milestone, and together they create a roadmap for achieving a specific professional certification, degree, or career goal.

How They Work:

  • Stackable Credentials: Smaller badges are "stacked" together to build a larger qualification. For example, three skill-specific badges might combine to unlock one major milestone badge.
  • Visualizing Progress: Pathways serve as a visual tracking tool, allowing learners to see exactly what they have achieved and what they need to do next to reach their goal.
  • Verifiable Skills: Behind every badge is verified metadata that details exactly what the earner knows and how they demonstrated that skill.
